Abstract
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death among the elderly. This study aims to examine the relationship between stroke knowledge and the level of stroke risk factors in elderly individuals in Bedahan Village, Depok City. The research employs a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 85 respondents aged 45-90 years, selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data collection utilized questionnaires assessing knowledge of stroke symptoms and risk factors using the Stroke Recognition Questionnaire (SRQ) and Stroke Risk ScoreCard (SRSC). These covered factors such as blood pressure, pulse rate, smoking history, cholesterol, diabetes, physical activity, weight, and family history of stroke. Results revealed that 53 respondents exhibited low stroke knowledge, while 45 had low stroke risk factors. Spearman correlation analysis showed a significant negative relationship between stroke knowledge and risk factors (r=-0.614; p<0.05). This suggests that better knowledge of stroke is associated with reduced stroke risk factors among the elderly. The findings underscore the importance of health education to increase awareness of stroke risk. Community-based health programs aimed at improving health literacy could serve as effective preventive strategies to reduce stroke incidence in elderly populations.
