Abstract
Films as mass media now play a significant role in shaping public perception and discourse on various social issues. In today's digital era, popular films like "Barbie The Movie" significantly influence public understanding and attitudes towards feminism. Analyzing the representation of feminism in this film is urgent because it reveals how media affect social norms and dialogues about gender equality, providing valuable insights for effective communication and gender education strategies. This study examines the representation of feminism in the film "Barbie The Movie" using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. It seeks to provide insights into how feminism is portrayed in popular films and its impact on societal views regarding gender equality. The methodology is qualitative analysis using Barthes' semiotic technique, emphasizing denotation and connotation. The analysis focuses on visual and narrative elements of the film, including dialogues, scenes, and symbolism depicting feminist issues. Data collection was conducted through documentary study, involving film clip analysis to explore feminism's representation. The results indicate that "Barbie The Movie" offers more than just an entertaining narrative; the film critiques patriarchal norms through its storyline and Barbie's characteristics. An in-depth analysis of key scenes reveals how the film portrays the challenges and inequalities faced by women and highlights the importance of solidarity and collective strength among women in combating patriarchal power structures. This film significantly contributes to feminist discourse by promoting gender issue awareness and encouraging social change towards greater gender equality.
