Abstract
Herniated Nucleus Pulposus is a tear in the annulus fibrosus of the intervertebral disc, and the nucleus pulposus exits through the annulus fibrosus tear, resulting in compression of the spinal nerve roots. Tearing of the annulus fibrosus leads to compression of this nerve root causing pain in the lower back. The prevalence of Lumbar HNP in each year varies greatly with figures reaching 15-45% of the population with the highest incidence occurring in the age range of 30 - 50 years. The purpose of this study was to determine the physiotherapy management of the condition of Lumbar HNP. This study uses a case study method with a female patient Mrs. N aged 61 years with a medical diagnosis of Lumbar Nucleus Pulposus Hernia. Using one HNP patient sample. The measuring tool used to determine lumbar functional activity disorders is the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The results of this study indicate that after physiotherapy was performed 5 times within a period of 3 weeks by providing TENS, Infrared, and McKenzie exercise interventions, it was found that these modalities could reduce pain, increase muscle strength, increase joint range of motion, and increase functional activities in patients with Lumbar Nucleus Pulposus Hernia. The conclusion of the study is that the provision of physiotherapy interventions has a positive effect on lumbar HNP patients after 5 times of therapy.
