Abstract
This research is motivated by the concern of the loss of Patumbu traditional sport, which is part of the cultural heritage of the Gorontalo community. As a form of folk game that has historical and philosophical values, Patumbu faces various challenges in maintaining its existence in the modern era. Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga (DISPORA) has an important role in preserving and promoting this traditional sport through effective communication strategies. The theory used in this research is Communication Goal Theory where this theory emphasizes the importance of communication goals in determining effective strategies. In the context of the research, this theory is used to understand how the Gorontalo Province Youth and Sports Office sets and achieves its communication goals in maintaining the existence of Patumbu traditional sport. Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga Provinsi Gorontalo tries to communicate cultural values and the importance of preserving Patumbu to various audiences, including the younger generation, the government, and the general public. The research paradigm used is constructivism where this paradigm emphasizes the way individuals and groups construct their social reality through interaction and experience. Then, this research uses qualitative methods with literature review, observation and in-depth interviews. By using qualitative method, this research can reveal how the communication strategy of Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga in maintaining the existence of Patumbu traditional sport is designed and implemented, and how the strategy is understood and accepted by various audiences. The result of this research is that Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga conducted strategies such as; recognizing target audiences, determining communication objectives, designing messages, choosing communication channels, determining communication strategies to introduce patumbu in this research choosing the promotion of Patumbu traditional sports in the national arena.
