Abstract
The complexity of human rights violations in the past sparked the birth of the Kamisan Action Movement on January 18 2007 with the initial name Silence Action and known to the public as the Black Umbrella Action, because every time they carry out an action they always wear a black umbrella, a symbolic form of struggle, protection and consistency. This research aims to investigate the contentious politics of the Kamisan Action Movement in fighting for human rights justice in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach with an explanatory type and case study research method. The theoretical basis of this research refers to the theory of contentious politics by Doug Mcadam, Sidney Tarrow, and Charles Tilly which highlights the scheme of fulfilling demands for needs and interests which leads to the formation of regions of political power based on ethnic, religious, shared beliefs or shared belief identities. core among these groups. The data in this research was obtained using interview techniques as a primary data source and library research as a secondary data source. The research results show that contentious politics is one of the phenomena of the Kamisan Action Movement which is characterized by feuds that go beyond formal political boundaries. In understanding the patterns and mechanisms of contentious politics, you can use schemes that identify and analyze political opportunity structures, resource mobilization, and framing processes. In the context of the political opportunity structure, there are still massive differences in views between judicial institutions, judicial institutions are unable or unwilling to follow up on cases of serious human rights violations involving political actors from past rulers who are still in the current government, causing the court process to be hampered, and there is a lack of harmony between society. civil and government. Framing process of the Kamisan Action can be interpreted as a symbolic action that consistently and continuously fights for the resolution of cases of human rights violations in the past. Resource mobilization through mass gathering in the Kamisan Action Movement requires an increase in the number of demonstrators whose numbers are still considered not massive enough to be able to put pressure on the state to immediately get serious about resolving the serious human rights problems of the past. In fact, the absence of an ad hoc human rights court is an indication of the President's lack of political will as head of state. This situation shows that even though there are various kinds of strong mobilization efforts from civil society, on the other hand, the Kamisan Action Movement's need to resolve political challenges and obstacles in facing the government is still a real thing in achieving the goals of this movement. Keywords : contentious politics, Kamisan Action Movement, human rights justice.
