Abstract
The trend of importing second-hand clothes, commonly known as thrifting, has become an inevitable habit in Indonesia. This phenomenon is considered highly newsworthy by the media, prompting several online media outlets, including CNBCIndonesia.com and Kompas.com, to publish reports on the topic. The aim of this research is to understand the framing of news regarding the illegal import industry of second-hand clothes on the online media platforms CNBCIndonesia.com and Kompas.com. The researcher employs a constructivist paradigm and the method used is framing analysis. The theory used in this research is Robert N. Entman's framing theory. The concepts in this research include social media, online journalism, media construction of reality, and the analysis of framing and highlighting of a phenomenon. Framing analysis demonstrates how media alters and constructs reality, subsequently shaping how society or the audience views these events through the way they modify and frame them. The research findings indicate that CNBCIndonesia.com tends to frame the news in the context of economics and business, focusing on the economic impact of the illegal second-hand clothes import industry. On the other hand, Kompas.com emphasizes social and environmental framing, highlighting the social impacts of the illegal second-hand clothes import industry on society and the surrounding environment. The framing construction of CNBCIndonesia.com and Kompas.com online media can be distinguished in several aspects, particularly in terms of news focus, perspective, and approach to the same issue.
