Abstract

Renal failure is a decline in kidney function when the kidneys are unable to remove metabolic waste in the body. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of lavender oil hand massage in haemodialysis patients on their sleep quality. This therapy is performed for 5 minutes on each hand using the thumb while pressing and with circular movements from the thumb to the pinky. In this study, the action was carried out 4 times during haemodialysis and 8 times before going to bed at night using lavender aromatherapy oil measured by the sleep quality questionnaire, namely the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). After carrying out nursing interventions for 4 hemodialysis sessions, the results showed that there was an improvement in the quality of sleep of Mr. S with a PSQI value of 4. S with a PSQI value of 4, which before the intervention was given a PSQI value of 15. There was no decrease in PSQI value for Mr. M without additional therapy. M without additional therapy. Aromatherapy hand massage is proven to reduce the level of sleep quality in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing haemodialysis.Aromatherapy hand massage treatment can be done independently at home as one of the non-pharmacological techniques to improve sleep quality, so that by improving sleep quality, patients are expected to be able to complete normal tasks and can improve the patient's quality of life.
