Abstract
Background research in line with the spirit of openness of information, the embodiment of good governance can be done by providing an effective communication channel in order to encourage the involvement of the public. Public relations officer/acting as functional need to do public service, so that the resulting information can be useful to the public. The Ministry of Communications as a public body has formed a Ministry of information Official information and documentation Management (PPID). Information service is a service provided by the Ministry of communications and Informatics to the general user information. Research purposes to illustrate the effectiveness of the information service of the PPID for the community as a public relations activities in the management and service of public information with the survey on Visitor Information Services Centre of the Ministry of communication and Informatics of Republic of the Indonesia. The theory used is a gauge theory or criterion effectiveness according to Gibson in his structure and process measures of Effectiveness within an organisation, that the indicators of effectiveness can be measured from the productivity, quality, efficiency, flexibility, satisfaction, excellence, development and the achievement of a purpose. The methodology used is quantitative descriptive survey approach. Data collection is carried out by means of dissemination of the questionnaire. The population of the research was the Visitor Information Services Centre data taken on the PPID visitors in 2012 of 511 people, with samples as many as 84 people. The results of the above calculation results can be known that the PPID information service as public relations activities in management and public information Services for the public judged so effective because it has a value of 110,6. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded from the results of calculations on every dimension of the research note that the PPID information service rated highly effective for society as the activity of public relations in management and information service of the public. Advice, Information Services Centre the PPID should be able to maintain the effectiveness of the information service of the public, i.e. of the PPID Officers should have competence in the field of the management of public information.
