Abstract
This study aims to explore the interpersonal communication experiences and the meaning of interactions conducted by caregivers in an orphanage with foster children, based on aspects of interpersonal communication, symbolic interactionism theory, and Schutz's phenomenology. The method used in this research is a qualitative research approach, specifically the Schutz's phenomenological approach, utilizing primary data sources through in-depth interviews with informants and secondary data through literature review. The results of this study indicate that the interpersonal communication experiences of caregivers with parents in forming a positive self-concept utilize a humanistic approach, demonstrated by openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive mindset, equality, and an interactive model of communication. Furthermore, the interactions carry meaning for caregivers at the Muhammadiyah Child Welfare Institution PCM Kembangan, where they act as foster parents and social workers driven by a sense of purpose to benefit others, while the orphanage serves as a place that provides hope, opportunities, and positive change for children.
