Abstract

Social anxiety among adolescents in orphanages continues to increase every year. Social anxiety is defined as an excessive feeling of fear when being with other people. Orphanage adolescents who experience social anxiety can experience problems interfering with daily life and avoiding social situations. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of self-esteem and self-acceptance to social anxiety in adolescents at the Al-Mu'thi Cirebon Foundation Orphanage. The research method used was cross-sectional using the Spearman correlation test to determine the relationship between the variables of self-esteem, self-acceptance, and social anxiety. The sample collection technique used was purposive sampling on adolescents at the Al-Mu'thi Cirebon Foundation Orphanage as many as 127 respondents. The instruments used consisted of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) for self-esteem, Berger's Self-Acceptence Scale for self-acceptance, and the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) for social anxiety. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between self-esteem and self-acceptance of social anxiety with a p-value of 0.000 and 0.000 which means p < 0.05. This study is expected to add insight adolescents in orphanages order to increase self-esteem and self-acceptance by having a positive attitude towards themselves in order to avoid social anxiety.
