Abstract

Low birth weight babies (LBW) are babies born with less weight or not reaching the normal weight of 2500 gr. LBW babies in general do not have maturity in the body's defense system to adapt to the external environment, so babies have difficulty maintaining their body temperature because the thermoregulation system is not optimal. The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to analyze nursing care with the application of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) intervention on body temperature in LBW infants. Kangaroo Mother Care is a direct contact treatment or skin-to-skin touch between the mother and her baby which is carried out in a kangaroo-like position which provides a situation or condition similar to that in the womb so that the baby gets warmth from the mother's body. This intervention was carried out for three days with a frequency of once per day for 1 hour which was measured using an axillary thermometer before and after the intervention was given. The results of the implementation showed a significant increase in body temperature before and after the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care. The author recommends Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) intervention to overcome nursing problems in LBW infants.
