Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia start from 2018 until 2020 continues to decline. One of the factors that dominates exclusive breastfeeding is mothers knowledge about lactation management. The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between knowledge of pregnant women about lactation management and readiness to provide exclusive breastfeeding at the Rangkapan Jaya Baru Health Center in 2022. This study used a cross-sectional study design with a total sampling technique of 79 respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data analysis using Chi Square test. The results showed that there was a relation between respondents characteristics and readiness to give exclusive breastfeeding (age p=0.006, education p=0.000, occupation p=0.027, parity p=0.000) and there was a relation between knowledge about lactation management and readiness to give exclusive breastfeeding (p= 0.000) with POR = 194.723. This is influenced by the mothers low knowledge. Therefore, it is expected that pregnant women can carry out breast care through counseling or from the mass media and pay more attention about explanations from health workers regarding lactation management while carrying out inspection. So that pregnant women can apply lactation management properly and correctly so that they are ready to give exclusive breastfeeding.
