Abstract
Cancer is the most feared disease because it can cause death. Patients with end-stage cancer are usually referred to as terminal stage patients who experience physical and psychosocial decline so that they have no emotions. Unfortunately, this emotional instability is also felt by the families of terminal cancer patients. Health workers must be able to motivate families to feel calm and stable. Giving motivation needs to use good communication, especially nonverbal communication so that the message conveyed can be understood. Giving motivation using nonverbal communication is also often done by health workers at Dharmais Cancer Hospital so that researchers want to dig deeper into the meaning contained in the nonverbal communication. This research was conducted using qualitative methods through primary and secondary data collection techniques. Primary data obtained from observations and interviews with while secondary data obtained from scientific studies. The purpose of this study was to determine the meaning of nonverbal communication contained in providing motivation between health workers and families of terminal cancer patients. The results of the study indicate that there are various forms and meanings of nonverbal communication when health workers provide motivation to families of terminal stage cancer patients.
