Abstract
This study aims to analyze the influence of Anies Baswedan’s political endorsement on the preferences of first-time voters in choosing Pramono Anung and Rano Karno in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Regional Election. First-time voters are assumed to have relatively weak political preferences, making political endorsements a helpful reference in shaping their electoral decisions. The study employs the Political Endorsement Theory developed by Lupia and McCubbins, which includes three fundamental indicators: initial voter uncertainty, alignment of interests, and endorser knowledge. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was used to examine the influence of political endorsements on voter preferences. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents who follow the Instagram account @aniesbaswedan and are exposed to its political content. The findings demonstrate a positive and significant influence of political endorsement on the preferences of first-time voters, indicated by a correlation coefficient of 0.809. Simple linear regression analysis shows an R Square value of 0.654, meaning that Anies Baswedan’s political endorsement contributes 65.4% to the preferences of first-time voters, while the remaining 34.6% is influenced by other factors not examined in this research. The study concludes that Anies Baswedan’s political endorsement significantly affects the political preferences of first-time voters. It is expected that the results of this research will enrich academic discourse on modern political communication strategies, particularly the role of political endorsements in shaping voter preferences.
