Abstract
Fever is an increase in body temperature above normal that requires prompt management to prevent discomfort, dehydration, and the risk of seizures in children. It can be treated pharmacologically with antipyretics or non-pharmacologically through compresses. One natural alternative is the Aloe Barbadensis Miller compress, which lowers temperature through vasodilation and natural skin cooling. This study aimed to evaluate nursing care using Aloe Barbadensis Miller compress therapy in children with fever. The method used in this study was a case study method with a nursing process approach. The intervention involved four participants, two received the Aloe Barbadensis Miller compress as an innovative intervention, and two received regular water compresses as standard care. Compresses were applied for 15–20 minutes once daily for three consecutive days on the forehead and armpits. Body temperature was measured with a digital thermometer before and after each intervention. Results showed that the Aloe Barbadensis Miller compress reduced body temperature by an average of 1.5°C, while the regular water compress showed an average reduction of 0.9°C. When combined with antipyretics at body temperatures below 38°C, the Aloe Barbadensis Miller compress lowered temperatures below the normal range (36.2°C–36.1°C). Therefore, in mild fever cases below 38°C, Aloe Barbadensis Miller compresses are recommended without antipyretics, as they effectively reduce body temperature gradually. This intervention can thus be implemented as an independent nursing action for managing fever in children.
