Abstract
K-pop music videos are not just promotional and entertainment tools; they are cultural texts containing signs, symbols, and social meanings. The K-pop sector implicitly addresses LGBT issues, particularly through the depiction of same-sex emotional relationships. Using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, this study investigates the representation of lesbians and bisexuals in the music video "Hype Boy" by the group NewJeans. Denotation, connotation, and myth are the three stages of meaning-making used in this qualitative descriptive study. The results show that physical closeness, affective gestures, personal interactions, and ambiguous storylines demonstrate the representation of emotional relationships between female characters in the music video "Hype Boy." While not explicitly displaying sexual identity, this representation generates implicit meanings about lesbians and bisexuals. This representation builds the idea that same-sex affective attraction and emotional closeness can be understood as part of the fluid and complex emotional experiences of adolescents. Thus, the music video "Hype Boy" symbolically and subtly depicts LGBT issues, allowing audiences to perceive non-heteronormative meanings even though they are not explicitly conveyed. Keywords: K-Pop, LGBT, Music Video, Roland Barthes Semiothics, Representation, Semiotics.
