Abstract

Background : Problems experienced in old age are part of the natural aging process that occurs with increasing age. Common changes found in the elderly include a decline in cognitive function and physical ability, including walking speed, both of which play an important role in maintaining independence and quality of life. Purpose : This study aims to analyze the relationship between cognitive function and walking speed in elderly people at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1. Design : The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 40 respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Cognitive function was measured using the Indonesian version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment instrument, while walking speed was assessed using the 10-Meter Walk Test. Result : The results showed that most elderly people had mild cognitive impairment (44.7%) and the majority had abnormal walking speed (95%). Conclusion : Statistical analysis using Pearson's correlation test showed a relationship between cognitive function and walking speed in the elderly at PSTW Budi Mulia 1 Cipayung, Jakarta, with a correlation value of 0.461.
