Abstract

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF KOREAN AND JAPANESE POP MUSIC ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN JAKARTA Agmallia Abstract Popular culture is a new, influential, and easily accessible form of culture that has been widely embraced. One of its most favored instruments is music, which many countries, including South Korea and Japan, have strategically utilized. This study aims to examine the perspectives of active university students toward South Korean (K-Pop) and Japanese (J-Pop) music using the EPIC Model method. The research population consists of university students in Jakarta, with data collected through questionnaires based on the four EPIC dimensions: empathy, persuasion, Impact, and communication. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling. The data analysis method applied is descriptive quantitative analysis. The results show a difference in respondent scores among those who listen to K-Pop, J-Pop, and both. The analysis using the EPIC Model reveals that students’ perceptions of J-Pop received a more positive score of 3.62, compared to K-Pop (3.58) and both genres combined (3.56). Keywords: K-Pop, J-Pop, EPIC, Perception, Music
