Abstract

Cultural diplomacy is one of the key instruments used by a country to introduce and promote its culture. Indonesia is among the countries that actively engage in cultural diplomacy. Through the Indonesian Embassy in Bern (KBRI Bern), Indonesia has been actively implementing cultural diplomacy. The outbreak of Covid-19 had an impact on the decline in the number of Swiss tourists visiting Indonesia. As a response, KBRI Bern utilized cultural diplomacy as a means to promote Indonesian culture to the Swiss public. To attract the interest of Swiss society and to establish a strong nation branding, KBRI Bern organized various programs and activities. This study employs the concepts of cultural diplomacy and nation branding to help describe and analyze the cultural diplomacy efforts carried out by KBRI Bern in Switzerland. The research uses a qualitative method. The findings indicate that KBRI Bern has undertaken numerous activities and programs. These efforts have proven successful, bringing a positive impact namely an increase in Swiss tourist visits to Indonesia in 2022.
