Abstract
This research aims to reveal the representation of life regret in the lyrics of the song "Rangkum" by Polka Wars using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach. The song was chosen due to its rich symbolism, emotional depth, and reflective nature concerning life experiences. Saussure’s semiotic theory views meaning as the result of the relationship between the signifier and the signified within a system of signs. In this context, each word or phrase in the lyrics is analyzed as a signifier that refers to emotional meanings such as loss, self-reflection, and disappointment. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques to examine the linguistic structure and symbolic meanings in the song lyrics. The analysis shows that the lyrics of "Rangkum" represent life regret through poetic diction, metaphorical expressions, and melancholic nuances that evoke emotional resonance in listeners. The meanings within the lyrics are not fixed but are open to various interpretations depending on the audience’s personal experiences and cultural backgrounds. The study demonstrates that song lyrics function not only as artistic media but also as symbolic communication tools and psychological expressions. These findings are expected to enrich the study of musical semiotics and provide deeper insight into the power of lyrics as a reflection of human experience.
