Abstract
On August 23, 2019, Taylor Swift released her album Lover, featuring the song The Man. This study aims to examine how Indonesian woman interpret the song The Man by Taylor Swift. The research use qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s reception theory to analyze audience interpretation. Interviews were conducted as the primary daya source, to understand how female audiences perceive the message in The Man. informants were selected through non-probability purposive sampling. Based on Hall’s 3 audience position, which is dominant hegemonic position, negotiated position and oppositional position, the result in this research is all 6 of the informants were in dominant hegemonic position with the similiar interpretation. But although their interpretation were similiar, they were shaped by their various background.
