Abstract

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of long-term disability, often resulting in hemiparesis especially in the upper extremities, which interferes with daily activities. Interventions such as Range of Motion (ROM) exercises are essential, and Spherical Grip exercises are exercises specific to hand grip strength. This study aims to offer treatment to ischemic stroke patients by applying Spherical Grip interventions to increase muscle strength. The descriptive case study method was used on two ischemic stroke patients at Jakarta Hospital in February 2025. The analysis focused on the implementation of Spherical Grip using rubber balls, 2 sessions/day, 10-15 minutes/session, for 3 days. The intervention was carried out in 2 times, namely in the morning and evening. Muscle strength evaluation was carried out using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) in the initial assessment, then with a Hand Dynamometer before and after the training session. The results of the analysis showed an increase in hand muscle strength in both patients after the Spherical Grip intervention. The muscle strength of the first patient increased from 3 kg to 9 kg, while the second patient increased from 1 kg to 4 kg. The nursing care process that is integrated with Spherical Grip intervention can be carried out in stroke patients. The application of Spherical Grip in the context of ischemic stroke patient care has shown positive potential in helping to improve hand muscle strength, although the rate of improvement varies depending on the patient's initial muscle strength condition, age, and motivation.
