Abstract
Historical objects are cultural artifacts that can serve as a source of pride for a nation's identity and the advancement of its culture and civilization. In the modern era, historical objects can provide benefits in various sectors of life. The confiscation of historical objects by the Netherlands against Indonesia has given Indonesia the opportunity to continue fighting for the return of historical objects since independence. Cultural diplomacy is one of the ways Indonesia works to repatriate historical objects. This study aims to determine the steps of cultural diplomacy that have been taken by Indonesia towards the Netherlands in the repatriation of historical objects for the period 2021-2023. This study uses the theory of cultural diplomacy and repatriation as the basis for analysis using qualitative descriptive research methods. This study uses data triangulation techniques that are sourced from primary data and secondary data. This study was analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, conclusions and data verification. The final result obtained in this study is that Indonesia has succeeded in carrying out cultural diplomacy towards the Netherlands in the repatriation of historical objects for the period 2021-2023 in accordance with its national interests through three stages, namely the formation of the Indonesian Historical Objects Repatriation Team in the Netherlands, submission of a Letter of Request for the Return of Historical Objects, and through bilateral meetings. The repatriation of historical objects from Indonesia succeeded in returning 472 historical objects. Although the practice of cultural diplomacy was carried out well, there were 4 other collection clusters that had not been successfully returned. This then became an additional task for Indonesia to continue to fight for the repatriation of historical objects from Indonesia in the Netherlands, both from the 4 collection clusters that had not been successful, as well as other collections of historical objects that had not been submitted for repatriation.
