Abstract

Background: Older adults often experience declines in physical, mental, and social functions, affecting their ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL). With the growing elderly population in Indonesia, assessing their independence, particularly in social care settings, is crucial to understanding factors influencing it. Objective: To describe the level of independence among older adults in ADL at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 3. Method: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted in October 2024 with 58 elderly participants. The Barthel Index was used for ADL assessment, and univariate analysis was performed. Results: Most respondents were categorized as independent (46.6%, 27 people), while none fell into the total dependence category. Age and gender significantly influenced their independence levels. Conclusion: Older adults aged 60-74 were more independent compared to older groups, and women were more likely to be in the independent or slightly dependent categories, whereas men tended to be moderately dependent.
