Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases that can be made more likely by unhealthy lifestyle choices. Because of the major changes they go through in college, students are more likely to embrace unhealthy habits. The purpose of this study is to examine how students' lifestyle choices and their understanding of the genetic history of diabetes mellitus relate to one another. This study employs a cross-sectional methodology, collecting data via a Google Form and utilizing the chi-square test for analysis. Using a stratified random selection technique, 337 students from UPN "Veteran" Jakarta's Faculty of Health Sciences participated in this study as respondents. The Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire-24 (DKQ-24) and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II) are the questionnaires utilized in this investigation. According to the study's findings, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and students' lifestyles (p = 0.015) and between genetic history of DM and students' lifestyles (p = 0.025). These results underscore the importance of promoting awareness and preventive measures for DM among university students. This study contributes to the growing body of scientific literature, particularly in the field of nursing. It is recommended that students adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle practices to mitigate the risk of developing DM in the future. Additionally, students are encouraged to serve as role models in their communities by exemplifying healthy lifestyle behaviors.
