Abstract
The movie Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts shows a woman's resistance through her masculine and feminine attitudes, otherwise known as androgyny, which indicates a gender identity in contrast to the stereotypes that develop regarding women being feminine and men being masculine in society. This research aims to determine the representation of androgynous identity depicted in a film using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory through denotation, connotation, and myth aspects. The results obtained through the analysis of seven scenes are that Marlina shows four feminine characteristics, namely yielding, feminine, gentle, and affectionate, and four masculine characteristics, namely aggressive, self-reliant, masculine, and defends her belief. The conclusion of this research shows that Marlina's feminine and masculine characteristics show Marlina's identity as an androgyne who can flexibly respond to situations she faces with appropriate gender role characteristics.
