Abstract

Depression is a psychological disorder often experienced by the elderly. As they get older, they feel alone, lose confidence and become isolated. The elderly need support to reduce the risk of health and psychological problems. Social support, especially from family is very important in helping the elderly cope with life stresses. The family acts as a community care center in the treatment of depression. The elderly school is a government initiative to improve the quality of life of the elderly. This study is an observational analytic with a cross sectional research design. The data collection method is simple random sampling, involving 37 participants as research samples who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria at Fatmawati Elderly School. The result of the analysis show that 86.5% of participants had good family support (p=0.456) and 91.9% of participants had healthy family function (p=0.298). Family support and family function do not have a significant relationship with the incidence of depression in the elderly.
