Abstract

Pain and discomfort below the costal margin often occur above the inferior gluteal fold, accompanied by or without pain in the legs and can also be called Low Back Pain. LBP is one of the main causes of disability in the world. As many as 30-80% of LBP cases are found to be caused by Hernia Nucleus Pulposus (HNP). Various factors can influence HNP such as degenerative, genetic, mechanical and behavioral processes. One of the degenerative factors that affects HNP is age. Mechanical factors that influence HNP are Body Mass Index and employment history. This study aimed to determine whether there was a significant relationship between age, BMI and work history with the severity of lumbar HNP at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. Method: This study used a quantitative analysis method with a cross-sectional design with a total sample of 96 medical records studied. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between age (p = 0.043), BMI (p = 0.010), and work history (p = 0.012) with the severity of lumbar HNP. Conclusion: Based on research on 96 samples of medical records regarding the relationship between age and BMI and the severity of lumbar HNP in general patients and TNI soldiers at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta in 2023, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the three risk factors and the severity of lumbar HNP
