Abstract

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) need adequate and balanced nutrition to support growth, development, and avoid nutritional problems. One factor influences nutritional problems is lack of knowledge. Nutrition education can enhance knowledge of companions of children with ASD about balanced nutrition. Education with booklet and video are considered effective. However, the differences in effectiveness between two media needs to be analysed. This study aims to determine the differences in the effectiveness of education with booklet and video media on the balanced nutrition knowledge of companions of children with ASD in the Jabodetabek region. This study uses a quasi-experimental with a two-group pretest-post-test design. The sample size is 120 respondents. Sampling technique using cluster sampling with questionnaire as a research instrument. Data analysis uses univariate analysis to determine distribution picture and bivariate analysis using Mann-Whitney test. Mann-Whitney test showed p-value 0,003 which shows both media are effective. Even so, the mean for video media group is greater, that is to say 67,23, compared to the mean for booklet media group, that is to say 53,77. Education with video media is more effective in increasing the knowledge on balanced nutrition of companions of children with ASD compared to booklet media.
