Abstract

When the heart stops pumping, blood flow throughout the body, including the brain and other important organs, stops, a condition called a heart attack, usually due to damage to the heart's electrical system (American Heart Association, 2017). Heart attacks often occur outside hospitals, in cases known as out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), with approximately 326,000 cases in the United States in 2015 according to the AHA. Health education helps expand people's knowledge, improve information, behavior and attitudes to maintain health. Good knowledge can produce a positive attitude. Basic Life Support (BLS) is an important technique in first aid that teaches how to save victims from accidents. This research describes the knowledge and attitudes of high school students towards BLS using a quantitative descriptive design with a sample of 208 students. The results show that the majority of respondents are female (74%) and 17 years old (98%), with sufficient knowledge, but the attitudes held by students of SMAN 13 and 14 Tangerang Regency are negative.
