Abstract

This research aims to examine the phenomenon of ChatGPT usage among senior female university students completing their theses. This phenomenon has emerged alongside technological advancements marked by ChatGPT, a text based artificial intelligence website. The study seeks to understand the motives behind the use of ChatGPT by female students to fulfill their informational needs. Drawing upon David Ellis's theory of information-seeking behavior, the research adopts a qualitative method with an Edmund Husserl phenomenological approach. Data were collected through interviews with five informants selected based on specific criteria. The findings indicate that ChatGPT effectively meets users' informational needs, despite users' cross-verifying answers provided. Users expressed satisfaction with ChatGPT's responses, which were deemed sufficiently informative. The researcher recommends that future studies explore the latest versions of ChatGPT while noting that this study utilized ChatGPT version 3.
