Abstract

This research aims to determine Hasan Basri Umar's political communication strategy in gaining vote participation in the 2019 general election in the North Jakarta area. In this research, we used analysis of several theories, including political communication strategies by Dr. Gun Heryanto and political branding theory by Peter Montoya (2002). The method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive research and techniques for collecting data from interview methods, documentation and literature studies in the form of books, journals or previous research and websites. The data obtained was taken directly from original sources in the field and can be used to state the reliability of the data produced using interview techniques with sources. The research results show that Hasan Basri Umar's election in the 2019 North Jakarta City Legislative Election using two approaches, namely political communication by direct interaction and also personal branding, was successful. This approach aims to build good interactions between legislative candidates and constituents, it is important to build trust and support from various levels of society who will vote in the 2019 general election. Apart from the strength of Hasan Basri Umar's popularity and character, this is the main factor in winning voters' votes. This research shows that Hasan Basri Umar's political communication and personal branding strategies are effective in building trust and support from constituents. These findings emphasize the importance of direct interaction and involvement in social activities to create closeness with voters. This research contributes to the development of political communication science by offering relevant strategies for politicians in the election context.
