Abstract

Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention and distractibility, with or without hyperactivity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common mental health disorder in children aged 3–17 years, with a prevalence of 9.8% from 2016 to 2019. Over time, various therapeutic methods have been designed to treat ADHD patients. One such method is neurofeedback therapy, also called neurotherapy. This therapy method uses feedback from brain activity to improve brain function in children with ADHD. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of neurofeedback training in pediatric patients with ADHD at the Talenta Center Bekasi clinic on their brain wave activity. Methodology: This study is a quantitative study using a one-group quasi-experimental design. This study design focused on examining the effect of a treatment by comparing data before and after treatment, namely neurofeedback therapy. The population in this study were all patients who fit the inclusion criteria. Results: After 5 sessions of therapy, there was a significant correlation between neurofeedback therapy and SMR brain wave activity in children with ADHD (P = 0.004) but no significant correlation between neurofeedback therapy and theta brain waves. Discussion: Neurofeedback therapy for 5 sessions has an effect on SMR brain waves in children with ADHD, but its effect on theta waves needs further research.
