Abstract

Patients in the ICU require adequate life support because the majority have experienced disruptions in vital functions and need mechanical ventilators for respiratory assistance. The use of mechanical ventilators can cause discomfort and potential agitation in patients. Agitation in critically ill patients is a condition characterized by an increase in irregular motor activity that can potentially endanger the patient due to loss of self-control. The prevalence of agitation in the ICU varies greatly, ranging from 12% to 70%. This study aims to analyze the effects of nursing care innovation using shiatsu massage techniques, particularly on the Li 4 point, as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce agitation levels. Following the intervention and measurement using the RASS scale, patients tended to experience a stable decrease in agitation levels, particularly those utilizing mechanical ventilators.
