Abstract

The results of the evaluation of the learning system implemented at the UPN “Veteran" Jakarta Medical Faculty can be seen from the Semester Achievement Index (IPS) scores achieved. There are many obstacles faced by students in getting good social studies from external and internal factors. One example is stress and the use of social media. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the use of social media and stress on the academic achievement of medical students. This study is an observational analytical research using cross sectional approach. This study was conducted on pre-clinical medicine students. The data collection method is simple random sampling with a total sample of 118 students. This study uses primary data with data analysis using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that 59 students (50.0%) used social media in the moderate category, 37 students (31.4%) had very severe stress, had a IPS average of 3.50 with the highest score being 3.92 and the lowest 2.59. The results of the analysis show that there is a relationship between social media use and academic achievement (p=0.007) and there is a significant relationship between student stress and academic achievement (p=0.018). The lower the use of social media and stress, the better the academic performance.
