Abstract
Indonesia is now on the third position as a country with the highest number of smokers in the world. It continues to increase, coupled with the high number of smokers in adolescence. Smoking is the process of using a cigarette by burning the end of cigarette and then inhaling it at the other end. There are many factors that influence adolescent to smoke, such as predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors. The determinants of smoking consist of knowledge, attitudes, peer influence, generation X mother parenting style, the ease of getting cigarettes, and the use of social media. This study aims to know the determinants of smoking in adolescents aged 15-19 years in SATRIA Vocational High School. This research is using quantitative method with cross sectional research design. The sample consist of 305 students. The sampling technique was convenience sampling. The result showed that there was a relationship between knowledge, attitudes, peer influence, generation X mother parenting style, the ease of getting cigarettes, and the use of social media with smoking in adolescents aged 15-19 years old (p < 0,05). Adolescent are expected to be aware of their health, so they can avoid smoking behavior.
