Abstract
Processes in the fabrication industry such as cutting, drilling, welding, and assembling construction steel have a high risk of causing work accidents. Accident data of PT. Cilegon Fabricators showed that the biggest cause of work accidents is unsafe behavior. Safety behavior can prevent accidents in the workplace. Safety behavior can be influenced by safety climate. This study aims to determine the correlation between safety climate and safety behavior on production workers of PT. Cilegon Fabricators. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional method. The number of the respondents was 66 selected by simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using the NOSACQ-50 questionnaire and safety behavior observation checklist. The result showed that 51.5% of respondents had poor safety behavior. The bivariate analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between safety behavior with 7 safety climate dimensions namely management safety commitment (p-value 0.013), management safety empowerment (p-value 0.003), management safety justice (p-value 0.035), worker’s safety commitment (p-value 0.013), worker’s safety priority and risk non-acceptance (p-value 0.014), safety communication with co-workers (p-value 0.011), and trust in the efficacy of safety systems (p-value 0.013). Finally, the company needs to maintain and improve the safety climate and workers supervision to improve safety behavior.
