Abstract

The nature of plastics which is difficult to decompose is one of the factors that causes damage to the environment. Recycling plastics can not only help reduce environmental pollution, but also increase the sale value. Not all industries have plastic chopping machines due to high prices and they are usually made on a large scale. This research aims to design a plastic chopper with a capacity of 10kg / hour with a shredder type. The plastic to be chopped is a type of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic. From the results of the engine design, the engine capacity is ± 10 kg / hour, with dimensions of 50 cm x 120 cm x 30 cm, the power of the motor is 3 HP. The main components consist of a shredder, reel blade, bedknife blade as a stationary blade, hopper, frame, filter, outlet, and a drive unit consisting of an electric motor, reducer, belt, pully and 2 gear transmission. The results of engine performance testing at 75 RPM shredder rotation and 1000 RPM reel-type cutting cylinders, 10 kg / hour engine capacity, with 80% uniformity of chopped results with a size of ≤10mm so that it can be sold as plastic ore.
