Abstract

PT. DC is a manufacturing company engaged in oil & gas that produces and repairs pumps in Indonesia such as: RMT, Dura Pump, Fire Water Pump Packger, Peerless Pump, and Clyde Union Pump. PT. DC in its activities always try to maintain and improve the quality of its products. PT. DC often experiences production delays due to setup times that are not able to match company targets. PT. DC has a problem that is a long setup time on some machines, namely, milling and horizontal drilling mill are factors causing the production delay. Efforts to reduce setup time can be done using the Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) method. In this research an improvement will be made by moving some internal to external activities in the machine setup process. The application of SMED is carried out on horizontal drilling mill and milling machines. The result is that the setup time on the milling machine by moving some internal to external activities is obtained by comparing the standard time before and after the conversion of activities from 258.47 minutes to 220.76 minutes while on the horizontal drilling mill from 337.65 minutes to 277, 39 minutes.
