Abstract

As a metabolic disorder with surging incidence, type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is heavily influenced by daily habits, particularly smoking. Tobacco exposure triggers insulin resistance and activates cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes, directly impairing oral antidiabetic drug performance and worsening blood glucose regulation. This study aimed to analyze the impact of education regarding smoking effects on oral antidiabetic therapy toward changes in smoking behavior and blood glucose levels among T2DM patients at RSUD Khidmat Sehat Afiat. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was conducted on smoking T2DM patients. Educational interventions were delivered using leaflets, with smoking behavior and blood glucose levels measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods to assess post-education differences. Results showed a significant improvement in smoking behavior (p < 0.001) and a significant enhancement in blood glucose control (p < 0.001) after education. Education on smoking effects regarding oral antidiabetic therapy significantly influences smoking behavior changes and helps improve blood glucose levels in T2DM patients.
