Abstract
The Siege of Bukit Duri is a film by Joko Anwar that was released in April 2025. This film raises various social issues, one of which is toxic masculinity behavior that is presented through the character of Jefri as the leader of a student group at Duri High School. Toxic masculinity is a form of masculinity that is carried out excessively which tends to be negative and results in harm to oneself and others. This research was conducted because the film The Siege of Bukit Duri shows various acts of violence, intimidation, and power relations in the school environment that reflect the problem of toxic masculinity that still occurs in Indonesian society. Therefore, this study examines how the representation of forms of toxic masculinity is shown through the character of Jefri in the film The Siege of Bukit Duri. The method used in the research is Semiotics and uses Roland Barthes' semiotic method. The researcher analyzed the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth in nine scenes selected by purposive sampling based on the emergence of toxic masculinity indicators. Based on the research results, five forms of toxic masculinity were identified as being represented by Jefri: dominance and the need to control others, aggression and violence, suppression of emotional expression, devaluation of women and misogyny, and homophobia or intolerance of feminine expression. These representations are displayed through dialogue, expressions, gestures, costumes, props, and visual elements in each scene.
