Abstract

Differences in work values between Generation Z and cross-generational supervisors in traditional organizations often create communication challenges in negotiating work-life balance. This qualitative study aims to analyze Generation Z’s communication experiences and meaning making in negotiating work-life balance at Institution X. Using Alfred Schutz’s social phenomenology and Moustakas’ analytical technique, data were collected through semi structured interviews with five Generation Z informants. The findings show that the negotiation of work-life balance is carried out through adjustments in communication styles, appropriate timing, and the establishment of personal boundaries. Work-life balance is understood as an effort to maintain physical and mental well-being, as well as productivity, without disregarding hierarchical norms. These experiences demonstrate that negotiation serves as a form of adaptation for Generation Z to align personal needs with the demands of traditional workplace culture.
