Abstract
The personal hygiene behavior of food handlers plays a crucial role in preventing food contamination, particularly in large-scale food production for the Makanan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) Program. According to data from the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network, Lampung Province placed 8th out of 26 provinces, recording 486 reported cases of food poisoning associated with the MBG program. This study sought to examine the factors associated with the hygiene practices of SPPG food handlers under the management of Foundation X in Lampung Province in 2026. A cross-sectional design was applied, with data collection conducted between May and July 2026 via observation and questionnaire-based interviews. A total of 118 food handlers were selected through consecutive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The findings revealed that 44.1% of participants demonstrated hygiene practices that did not comply with the required standards. Among the 8 variables examined, 7 variables (knowledge, education, sex, attitude, facilities and infrastructure, training, and supervision) were identified as candidate variables for multiple logistic regression analysis. The analysis showed that knowledge, attitude, facilities and infrastructure, and training were significant predictors of hygiene practices among food handlers (p-value ≤ 0.05). Hygiene practices among food handlers may be improved through the provision of food safety training for SPPG food handlers. Furthermore, SPPG should ensure that adequate facilities and infrastructure are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
