Abstract

The high divorce rate in indonesia, which reached 394,608 case in 2024, has significanlty impacted communication dynamics within families, particulary between daughters and their singke mothers. Divorce not only fundamentally alters familystructure but also destabilizes the emotional well being of all family members, especially daughters who tend to have heightened emotional sensitivity and a distinctiva bond with their mother as the sole parental figure present. This condition gives rise to unique interpersonal communication dynamics that continue to evolve over time. This study aims to deeply understand the interpersonal communication dynamics that develop between daughters and single mothers following divorce. This research employs a qualitative methode with Edmund Husserl’s Phenomenological approach, which places direct conscious experience at the center of analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation of five female informan aged 18-25 Thaun yeas who had lived with their single mothers for at least three year following the divorce. The finding reveal that the initial experience of divorce serve as a transformative turning point the shapes how daughters build communication with their mothers. Following the divorce, the intensity of daily communication increases with a broarder range of topics, yet daughters aslo practice selective self-disclosure as a strategy to protect their mothers emotional condition. Conflicts that arise within the relationship are resolved naturally through empathy and ultimately stengthen the bond between them. Mother are perceived as central figur capable of simultaneously fulfilling dual parental roles, dan daughters reflect on their hopes for an increasingly open communicative relationsip.
