Abstract
This study aims to analyze how intimidation and violence against journalists during the August 17+8, 2025 Demonstration reflects the issue of press freedom and journalist protection in Indonesian democracy using Libertarian Theory. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, indirect observation, and documentation. The stages of data analysis used were data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that acts of intimidation and violence against journalists occurred in various forms, namely physical violence, verbal threats, obstruction of coverage, and destruction of work equipment. The implications that arise are not only related to the safety and professionalism of journalists, but also reflect the continued vulnerability of the implementation of press freedom in Indonesia. The impact is felt not only on the individual aspect, but also on work professionalism related to press freedom in general. These various forms of intervention have the potential to limit press independence, hamper the press's function as a social control (watchdog), and reduce the fulfillment of the public's right to obtain accurate and balanced information. This study also found that protection for journalists has not been running optimally because the implementation of legal protection still faces various obstacles in practice. because the implementation of applicable laws still faces various obstacles in the field.
