Abstract
This study aims to understand how academic culture in higher education shapes academic dishonesty among accounting students. This study employed a qualitative method with an ethnomethodological approach to understand the experiences and meanings constructed by informants regarding academic dishonesty practices found in academic life. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations involving students, alumni, lecturers, and study program staff as research informants. The findings indicate that academic dishonesty does not emerge as an isolated act but is shaped through various interactions and experiences encountered by students throughout their academic lives. Peer relationships, examination supervision, and the implementation of sanctions influence how students perceive and respond to academic dishonesty practices. In addition, repeated experiences make academic dishonesty one of the phenomena that can still be found within the campus environment. These findings indicate that academic culture is shaped not only by formal rules within higher education institutions but also by habits, interactions, and experiences that develop in academic life. Therefore, efforts to reduce academic dishonesty should not rely solely on supervision and sanctions but also on strengthening an academic culture that upholds honesty, responsibility, and integrity.
