Abstract
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition in which a person experience symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling that radiate. This occurs due to compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel. The median nerve plays an important role in regulating sensory and motor functions in the hand. This condition is more common in women than men, especially in individuals whose work involves prolonged use of their hands. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the implementation and examination of physiotherapy, as well as to identify and evaluate cases of CTS. Methods: This study used a case study approach on a 52 year old woman working as a hospital administrator who complained of pain, tingling and numbness in the right wrist area. Physiotherapy intervention was carried out in four session using modalities such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Tendon gliding exercise, and Upper Limb Tension Test (ULTT) 1. Results: The result showed a reduction in pain measured using the NRS scale for resting pain, movement pain, and pressure pain. There was also an increase in joint range of motion (ROM) measured using a goniometer, as well as an improvement in muscle strength based on MMT values, and enhanced patient functional ability assessed using the BCTQ questionnaire. Conclusion: The physiotherapy interventions carried out were proven to have a positive the patient’s functional activities. Keywords: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Physiotherapy, TENS, Tendon Gliding Exercise, ULTT 1.
