Abstract
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common form of neuropathy found due to pinching of the median nerve in the wrist, especially in individuals with repetitive hand activities such as housewives. Clinical symptoms of CTS are pain, numbness, paresthesia in the area innervated by the median nerve, especially in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and part of the ring finger on the radial side. Globally, the incidence of CTS reaches about 276 cases per 100,000 people per year. This condition is the most common neuropathy that occurs at 90%, the symptoms of CTS can interfere with daily activities. The management of physiotherapy plays an important role in reducing symptoms in cases of CTS. Objective: To examine the understanding of the management of physiotherapy in cases of CTS. Methods: Using a case study method, with the subject of a case study of a 62-year-old woman diagnosed with CTS which was carried out in March 2026 at Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital. The interventions used were ultrasound, nerve gliding exercise, and tendon gliding exercise. The examination and evaluation carried out were to measure pain intensity using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), joint range of motion was assessed using Range of Motion (ROM), muscle strength was measured using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) and functional ability was assessed using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Results: After being given 4 interventions, the results obtained showed an increase in muscle strength from 4 to 5, an increase in joint range of motion of 5° in dorsal flexion, palmar flexion, and radial deviation movements, and improvement in hand function based on BCTQ scores for Syptom Severity Scale (SSS) score 29 to 20 and Functional Status Scale (FSS) score 17 to 10. Conclusion: It shows that the intervention given can reduce pain symptoms, increase the range of joint motion, increase muscle strength, and improve functional ability.
