Abstract
Background: Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach and intestines, which is commonly caused by viral or bacterial infections. This condition is characterized by frequent bowel movements with watery or semi-liquid stools containing more water than normal feces, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, with a frequency of defecation more than three times a day. In pediatric patients with acute gastroenteritis, dehydration often occurs due to excessive fluid loss. Objective: To analyze nursing care provided to a pediatric patient with acute gastroenteritis. Methods: The method used in this scientific paper was a case study in the form of nursing care for a pediatric patient with acute gastroenteritis for three days, starting from the first day of hospitalization in the Anggrek III ward. Nursing care included assessment, formulation of nursing diagnoses, planning of interventions such as hypovolemia management, educational support for parents regarding the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) in diarrhea management, implementation of nursing actions, and evaluation. Results: The results showed a decrease in the frequency of bowel movements, adequate fluid intake, and reduced frequency of vomiting, allowing the patient to gradually consume food. Conclusion: Nursing care provided for three days to a pediatric patient with acute gastroenteritis helped resolve problems related to hypovolemia, diarrhea, and nutritional deficit.
