Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that is a health problem in the elderly and can cause complications, such as neuropathy and sleep disturbances due to uncontrolled hyperglycemia. This condition is influenced by a lack of knowledge and suboptimal family health practices. This case study aims to describe the implementation of family nursing care for Mrs. S with diabetes mellitus in the RT 07 RW 06 area of Pancoran Mas Village, Depok City. The method used is a case study with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, physical examination, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively. The results of the case study indicate a nursing diagnosis of ineffective health management and disturbed sleep patterns. After providing family nursing care through health education, diet management, blood glucose monitoring, diabetic foot exercises, and acupressure therapy at HT7 and SP6 points which play a role in providing a relaxing effect, reducing anxiety, and improving sleep quality, accompanied by deep breathing relaxation, the family was able to improve knowledge, attitudes, and skills in caring for family members with diabetes mellitus, which was characterized by a decrease in blood sugar levels by 54 mg/dL, namely from 299 mg/dL to 245 mg/dL, as well as improving the patient's sleep quality. The conclusion of this case study is that family nursing care with an educational approach and family empowerment has a positive impact on the management of diabetes mellitus.
